RULES - RANKING
 
1. PURPOSE
To determine ranking of players who are resident of Maharashtra. The Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association (hereafter referred to as "The MSLTA") annually announces the ranking of different age categories on the basis of performances in tournaments organized by the MSLTA and All India Tennis Association (hereafter referred to as "The AITA").

2. ELIGIBILITY
A player, who is resident of Maharashtra State for one full calendar year, i.e. from 1st January to 31st December of the previous year shall be eligible for consideration of ranking based on his/her performance in different AITA and MSLTA ranking tournaments during such year for the purpose of ranking in Maharashtra on the basis as set out herein.
 
   
3. YEAR OF RANKING
(a) For the purpose ranking status for different categories as stated herein of the current year, the performance of the players for the period from 1st January to 31st December of the previous year shall be considered as per rules stated herein.
 
(b) Any ranking tournament as stated herein conducted in the last week of December and which ended on or after 1st January of the next year, shall be treated as tournament played in previous year for the purpose of performances, irrespective of some results which might fall in subsequent year and the result thereof be added in the previous year's performances.
 
   
4. RANKINGS
The MSLTA shall as far as possible announce the rankings of Maharashtra State in the month of January/February for Men, Ladies and Junior Boys and Girls under 18,14,12 and 10 years on the basis of performances of players in different categories as per rules set out herein.
 
   
5. REQUIREMENTS FOR RANKING
(a) Cut off point for participating in the Inter District tournament within the zone will be less than 10 MSLTA/AITA points as on 30th September of that year.
 
(b) For the purpose of Annual Ranking for Junior Boys/Girls under 14 &18 and Men's & Ladies, the participation in MSLTA/AITA ranking tournaments held in Maharashtra is not compulsory.
 
(c) No performances in ranking tournaments conducted by any other states and/or international tournaments not falling in the annual schedule of AITA ranking tournaments shall be considered for the purpose of Maharashtra State Ranking.
 
(d) For the purpose of ascertaining the status of ranking for Boys/Girls under 14 & 18 and Men's & Ladies, performances in best 9 AITA/ITF tournaments plus best 5 MSLTA tournaments (in case MSLTA ranking tournaments are held) will be considered. In the case of Boys/Girls under 10 & 12 events the performances of best 10 tournaments of MSLTA will be considered for ranking without any bonus point for each additional tournament he/she has participated.
 
(e) A player shall be registered with the AITA/MSLTA to qualify himself/herself for ranking status in Maharashtra.
 
(f) In case, in any category, the total numbers of ranking tournaments are less, requirement of 60 points would be reduced to 30 points.
 
(g) In case two or more players earn equal number of points, as per the clause (a) above a player who has earned more points in AITA tournaments will get priority over other/others. In case it is not possible to settle the status by the above method, the status will be decided by considering the total points earned in all the tournaments such player have participated.
 
   
6. POINTS
(a) A player shall not be eligible to earn points by mere participation. He/She shall earn points only on winning a round. A player, who gets a 'Bye' in the first round and thereafter loses in the next round, shall not be entitled for any point.
 
(b) A player, who loses in the first round of the tournament, shall not be given any point for participation.
 
(c) A player, who does not turn up for his match, shall not be entitled to points awarded for such a round, but he/she would be awarded points for the previous round only. However, a player who gets a walkover from his/her opponent is entitled for the point.
 
(d) The formula for singles points irrespective of the size of draw for Maharashtra ranking tournament is as follows.

(e) The points earned in AITA ranking tournaments by a player shall be taken as they stand for the purpose of Maharashtra Ranking.
 
   
7. AGE GROUP
A player, participating in junior events, shall be eligible to participate in a particular age group, provided such a player does not cross the age limit of the age group he/she intends to participate on 1st January of the year of the tournament. However, if a player crosses the age limit during the course of the year, he/she shall be eligible to participate in such age group till 31st December of the relevant year. e.g. a player completes the age of 14 on or after 1st January 2003 shall be eligible to participate in under 14 age group till 31st December 2003.
 
   
8. DECISION OF THE RANKING COMMITTEE:
Decision taken by the MSLTA Council in the matter of ranking shall be final and binding on the players concerned.
